# Create a Layer

1. Click the Layers icon in the left navigation bar.&#x20;

2. The Layers panel displays a list of existing layers. To create a new layer, click **+ Layer**.&#x20;

3. An Add Layer box will pop up.&#x20;

4. Select a layer type. Read about the different [layer types](/user-guide/layers.md#types-of-layers).&#x20;

5. A filtered list of datasets relevant to the layer type will be available for selection.

6. Additional selections may be required based on the layer type.
7. Collapse the layer settings menu when finished.
